Steal You Away by Niccolo Ammaniti

About the book

Ischiano Scalo. A place where even the main road out to the nearest big town gives up after a couple of miles, where escape from a life of boredom and emptiness is almost impossible. Forced into crimes he never wanted to commit, Pietro reaches crisis point when his parents ignore his pleas for help and his schoolteacher turns her back on him – in desperation, he reaches out for attention, and finds instead a terrible revenge. Escape from Ischiano Scalo comes at a price. Life there will never be the same again.

Review by Kings Somborne Reading Group:

Completely split the group: 1) gritty, realistic representation of life; pacey. 2) gratuitous sex and violence; poor literary style; unpleasant characters; ridiculous ending

The whole group disliked this book intensely. There were interesting storylines but the book was spoilt by the vey bad language and the fact that most of the characters were unpleasant.

Hard work and need persevering. Complicated, over descriptive but character were vivid. Shows the unpleasant side of human nature but thought provoking.
