Thessaloniki, 1917. As Dimitri Komninos is born, a devastating fire sweeps through the thriving Greek city where Christians, Jews and Muslims live side by side. Most of our group thought this was a thoroughly enjoyable story based on an interesting historical period in Greece. However, a few felt the writing didn’t flow and the characters lacked depth. Most enjoyed ‘The Island’ more.
